How we choose, check prices, and make money
The rules we follow on every page. If something here is out of date, it’s a mistake we want to fix.
How we choose
- Public pricing, features and plan limits. Our picks are based on what each vendor publishes on its own pricing page: listed prices, the features named for each plan, and limits such as included users.
- Listed, not tested. We haven’t run these products ourselves, so we describe features as “listed on the vendor’s site” and never present marketing claims as our own test results.
- Prices with a date. Each price shows the day we checked it and links to the source. If we can’t confirm a price, we write “check current price” instead of estimating.
- Fit first. We match tools to your trade, team size and budget. We name who should skip each tool.
How the quiz ranks tools
- A tool gets points if the vendor has a page for your trade.
- We find the cheapest listed plan with the features you picked (online booking, QuickBooks sync) and enough users for your team.
- If that plan’s listed price fits your budget, the tool gets more points. If it’s over, it loses points. If the price isn’t published, it gets a neutral score and we say so.
- A tool is labeled “Probably skip” only if it lacks a page for your trade or its listed price is over your budget. Otherwise the third card says “Also a fit.”
- Commissions are not part of the formula.
Which tools the quiz scores: four, Jobber, Housecall Pro, QuoteIQ and Workiz. We earn a commission on QuoteIQ links, and the other three run affiliate programs, so their buttons may earn us one too. Our trade guides also cover tools we have no affiliate relationship with, including free options, and label those links plainly.
