The short version
- Only two of the six show a price we could confirm without a sales call: Jobber Core is listed at $29/mo billed annually (1 user) and Housecall Pro Basic at $59/mo billed annually (1 user). Workiz, ServiceTitan, FieldEdge and Service Fusion all ask you to request pricing.
- Maintenance agreements and good/better/best proposals are where HVAC and plumbing shops differ from other trades. Housecall Pro lists recurring service plans and a sales proposal tool on MAX. Workiz lists service plans, sales proposals and flat rate on Ultimate. FieldEdge lists flat-rate pricing on every plan and multi-option quotes from Premier.
- 1–3 techs: start with trials of the tools that list prices and no-card trials: Housecall Pro (14 days), Jobber (14 days) and Workiz (7 days).
- Larger, established shops: ServiceTitan prices per technician, on request, with a demo first. We read it as aimed at larger multi-tech operations. FieldEdge and Service Fusion are also demo-first.

“Listed” means the vendor names the feature on its own pricing page; we haven’t verified how well it works. Where a price isn’t published, we don’t estimate it. Housecall Pro shows Essentials and MAX pricing through an industry and team-size selector, which we couldn’t confirm for this setup.
Small shop vs growing team
Owner-operator or 1–3 techs
You need fast quotes from the truck, invoices and card payments on site, and maybe financing for bigger repairs. Housecall Pro Basic and Jobber Core both list quoting, invoicing and online booking at a published price. If you already sell maintenance agreements, note which plan lists them: Housecall Pro MAX, Workiz Ultimate, or FieldEdge on every plan.
4+ techs, office staff, memberships
Dispatching, commissions, flat-rate price books, multi-option proposals and inventory start to matter. That’s where ServiceTitan, FieldEdge and Service Fusion aim, all quote-based. Before booking demos, list the three features you’d pay for and ask each vendor for a written price with every add-on and the contract terms.
Who each tool fits, and when to skip it
H Housecall Pro
Fits: residential HVAC and plumbing shops that want a published entry price, financing on every plan, and a path to service plans and proposals.
Maybe skip if: you need recurring service plans and a proposal tool but want to stay off the top plan. Both are listed on MAX.
J Jobber
Fits: small service-and-repair shops that want the lowest published entry price and a crew plan with routing and GPS (Connect).
Maybe skip if: maintenance agreements, flat-rate price books or customer financing are central to how you sell. We didn’t see them named in Jobber’s plan table.
W Workiz
Fits: shops that want QuickBooks sync, online booking and financing on every plan, and a built-in phone system (its FAQ says every plan includes one, though the plan table labels the Genius Phone section “sold separately,” so confirm in your quote).
Maybe skip if: you want to see a price before talking to sales, or you need service plans, flat rate or proposals without the top plan (all listed on Ultimate).
S ServiceTitan
Fits: larger, established shops with dispatchers, commissioned techs and membership programs. It lists per-technician packages from Starter to The Works.
Maybe skip if: you’re a one- or two-truck shop that wants a self-serve start. Pricing is on request, and its pricing page offers a demo rather than a trial.
F FieldEdge
Fits: multi-truck HVAC and plumbing shops that sell flat-rate and service agreements and use QuickBooks Online or Desktop.
Maybe skip if: you want to try before you buy. Its FAQ says there’s no free trial, and downgrades wait until the end of your contract period.
S Service Fusion
Fits: growing shops that want unlimited users on one plan price, estimate options and financing, and month-to-month terms (per its FAQ).
Maybe skip if: you want a published price or self-serve trial. The pricing page says “Get Demo and Pricing.”
Paying a crew? Payroll is usually separate.
Job apps track hours, but payroll and payroll taxes are normally handled by a payroll service. Gusto lists its Simple plan at $49/mo + $6/mo per person, as checked Oct 10, 2026 (source).
How we choose
How we choose. Our picks are based on each vendor’s public pricing page: listed prices, the features named for each plan, and plan limits such as included users. We haven’t run these products ourselves, so we describe features as “listed,” not tested, and we say when a price isn’t published. We rank by fit for your trade and team size, not by payout.

FAQs
What is the best software for a small HVAC business?
For 1–3 techs, compare the tools with published prices and no-card trials first: Housecall Pro (Basic $59/mo billed annually) and Jobber (Core $29/mo billed annually), plus Workiz (request pricing, 7-day trial). Check which plan lists maintenance agreements and flat-rate pricing. Take the 5-question quiz for a shortlist.
What is the best software for a small plumbing business?
The same shortlist applies. Plumbers who sell big-ticket jobs like water heaters or repipes should look at which plan lists financing and multi-option proposals: financing on every Housecall Pro, Workiz and Service Fusion plan; proposals on Housecall Pro MAX, Workiz Ultimate and FieldEdge Premier.
How much does ServiceTitan cost?
ServiceTitan doesn’t publish prices. Its pricing page says its pricing is per technician and shows “Request Pricing” on all three packages (Starter, Essentials, The Works), as checked Oct 10, 2026.
Is ServiceTitan worth it for a small shop?
It lists features aimed at bigger operations, such as call booking, payroll management, commission tracking and memberships. It also requires a sales conversation to get a price. For a one- or two-truck shop, we’d trial a published-price tool first and book a ServiceTitan demo once dispatching and memberships are real needs.
Does FieldEdge have a free trial?
No. Its pricing FAQ says it doesn’t offer a free trial and instead has its onboarding team set up and train new customers.
Which HVAC software works with QuickBooks Desktop?
FieldEdge lists QuickBooks Online and Desktop on every plan, and Service Fusion’s FAQ says it integrates with both. Housecall Pro, Jobber and Workiz list QuickBooks Online.
Do I need flat-rate pricing software?
Only if you price by the job rather than time and materials. Housecall Pro lists flat-rate pricing on Essentials, Workiz on Ultimate, and FieldEdge on every plan. ServiceTitan lists a pricebook.
