Solo mower vs small crew

Just you

Start free (Yardbook or CrewNest’s free plan) if you mainly need a customer list, a schedule, and invoices. Step up to a $29–$30/mo plan (Jobber Core or QuoteIQ Essentials) when you want customers to book or pay online without extra steps. Check whether QuickBooks sync is on the plan you pick; on Jobber and QuoteIQ it isn’t on the entry plan.

2–5 people

User pricing matters most here. CrewNest Pro lists unlimited team members for one price; Jobber Connect and Housecall Pro Essentials each list 5 users; QuoteIQ Pro lists 4. Also look at routing (who lists what, on which plan) and time tracking for payroll. Payroll itself is usually a separate tool.

Who each tool fits, and when to skip it

J Jobber

Fits: owners who want online booking, quotes, invoicing and payments in one app, with room to add a crew.

Maybe skip if: you need QuickBooks sync but want to stay on the cheapest plan, since sync is listed from Connect.

Q QuoteIQ

Fits: solo operators and small crews who quote from satellite measurements (MapMeasure Pro from Beginner).

Maybe skip if: you want QuickBooks sync, automated texts or a client portal on a small budget (all listed from Pro, $199.99/mo), or crew routing and GPS without Elite ($299.99/mo). The trial also asks for a card.

H Housecall Pro

Fits: lawn businesses that also sell bigger jobs or recurring service plans and want a broad home-service platform.

Maybe skip if: you’re a solo mower watching every dollar. Basic is listed at $59/mo billed annually, and QuickBooks sync is on Essentials.

Y Yardbook

Fits: new or part-time lawn businesses that want scheduling, routing and invoicing at $0.

Maybe skip if: you’d rather not use an ad-supported product. Its privacy policy says it shows ads, and some features sit behind optional Premium plans.

C CrewNest

Fits: small crews that want one flat price for the whole team plus satellite measuring. It lists lawn care, pressure washing and snow removal.

L LMN

Fits: established landscaping companies that budget, estimate and track job costs across crews.

Maybe skip if: you’re solo or just mowing. It’s listed from $297/mo plus a one-time onboarding fee, and its pricing page points you to book a demo rather than a self-serve trial.

Paying a crew? Payroll is usually separate.

Job apps track hours, but payroll and payroll taxes are normally handled by a payroll service. Gusto lists its Simple plan at $49/mo + $6/mo per person, as checked Oct 10, 2026 (source).

How we choose

How we choose. Our picks are based on each vendor’s public pricing page: listed prices, the features named for each plan, and plan limits such as included users. We haven’t run these products ourselves, so we describe features as “listed,” not tested, and we say when a price isn’t published. We rank by fit for your trade and team size, not by payout.

FAQs

What is the best software for a lawn care business?

It depends on team size and budget. For a solo owner, compare a free option (Yardbook, or CrewNest’s free plan) with a $29–$30/mo all-in-one (Jobber Core or QuoteIQ Essentials). For a crew of 2–5, compare how many users each plan includes. Take the 5-question quiz for a shortlist.

Is there free lawn care software?

Look for scheduling, recurring jobs, invoicing, and online payments on the cheapest plan. Jobber Core ($29/mo billed annually) and QuoteIQ Essentials ($29.99/mo) are the lowest-priced paid entry plans we checked; Yardbook is free.

What is the best invoicing software for lawn care?

Every tool on this page lists invoicing. The differences are online payments, automatic reminders (Jobber lists these from Connect), and whether it syncs with QuickBooks: Jobber from Connect, QuoteIQ from Pro, Housecall Pro on Essentials.
